I'm planning on getting a dog this spring or early this summer, and I'm wondering what breeds you all think make good barn dogs. I want the dog to be really small because I'm planning on getting an appartment while I still have it. Thanks for your help!

I've heard that Austrian Shepherds are good with horses. Border Collies are extremely smart too and are a medium size dog. Some apartments will allow larger size dogs in case you decide to go that route. My DH and I lived in an apartment with an 85 lb labrador and she did great!

I own three pure-bred black labs. Which in my opinion are great people/barn dogs. They're loyal, easy to train, and my horse loves them.

Corgis tend to be great barn dogs and are relatively small. JRTs are small as well, but keep in mind owning one is more like owning an 8 inch tall Rottweiler than a lap dog. You must be firm with them and give them LOTS of exercise.

Oh, it's so wonderful to have a dog!!! Our family have one dog, and we want another one. My favorite breed is boxer. This breed doesn't little, but it's the best, I suppose.

i got a dachshund lol, my landlord likes that better than he would ab oxer. when i get my own house i would like to get a boxer and a doberman. my fiance and i plan on getting a house together sometime within the next year, so we'll get a big dog then. im excited, i dont think my horse understands the concept of small dogs hahaha.
