chiquita522: AQHA Shows

For those of you who show at AQHA shows, I have a few questions....

First off: indiviual membership. My membership (and horse) are registered under [last name] Kathyrn or Cynthia. Do I have to have a card that is just in my name? And, do I have my horse re-registered under just my name?

Secondly: Amature/Novice Amature. I know that I have to get my amature card. But, since I've never shown at a recongized event, how do I go about getting my novice permits? Most importantly, how long does it generally take for the AQHA to send the papers/permits after I've submitted my paperwork?

1st Question:
Yes you have a card that is ONLY in your name... It doesn't matter what horse you ride, as long as you (or a family member) owns it... You don't need a card for each horse you ride...

2nd Question:
Depending on weather you are youth, novice youth, amateur, novice amateur, or open will be stated on your card... When you earn too many points to be in novice, AQHA or AQHYA sends you a new card that says either "youth" or "amateur"... And if you start taking money for training horses they send you a new card that says "Open" on it...

Recently AQHA has made a new rule so that when you point out of novice you don't have to completely stop doing novice classes... Instead they have skill sets, and once you get 20 points in each skill set you will not be able to show novice in that particular skill set anymore; but you will still be a novice in other skill sets that you haven't pointed out of... For example there is a skill set for Hunter Under Saddle and Pleasure combined; so if you accumulate 20 or more points through those events then tou will no longer be a novice for those events; but you will still be a novice in other classes such as jumping...

Also: In order to get your card you must become a member of AQHA... and they will send your card and other information to you... They are generally pretty quick about sending cards out....

Also... AQHA's website has a lot of info on it...

I hope that helps!!!!! You'll like showing AQHA shows, they're really fun!!!
